A midnight run against zombies at Outbreak Manila
July 28, 2012, Manila- How do people react to a zombie apocalyptic scenario? They outrun it.
This was the scene at Outbreak Manila, a 5kilometer zombie-infested obstacle run held at the Bonifacio Global City last July 28, 2012. The run featured a schedule of 35 waves that started at 6pm, and ended past midnight.
Over 7,000 runners faced hordes of zombies head-on at the second installment of the anticipated thrill run. And if running from the undead wasn't terrifying enough, participants had to endure the uncertainty of the night.
The object of the race was simple. For just one evening, zombies traded in brains for life flags. Each participant had three life flags attached to a running belt. Runners had to finish with the fastest time, with at least one life flag intact.
Response to the concept run was tremendous. Angelo Cruz of Recreate Events says, “Outbreak Manila closed registration after only 8 days. It just shows that Filipinos are ready for a new generation of concept runs. We feel very honored to be chasing all of these people tonight”.
Outbreak Manila isn't your typical run. In fact, some say it puts a new meaning to the term “fun” run. “It's one thing to aim for your best time. But it's a whole different game when your beating your all-time bests because you're running for your life”, adds Cruz.
