RIGHT AFTER PLAYING TOUGH GUY Ben Maningding in Ang Utol Kong Hoodlum, TV5’s action prince JC de Vera is again seen on primetime TV breathing life anew to Gardo Valiente in the remake of the ’90s soap opera Valiente.
His move to a new network in 2010 has been good for JC so far. Aside from Valiente, he has two other shows—Lokomoko and Hey, It’s Saberday. Indeed, his career and acting portfolio are thriving.
We caught up with the 26-year-old actor and asked him about his fitness regimen, career, and future plans.
There’s hardly a day we don’t see you on TV. You’re pretty busy and yet you still maintain your fit body…
In a week, three times lang yung off ko, so I go to the gym mga twice a week lang. Pero kapag vacation, halos every day ako nasa gym.
You’re into mixed martial arts, too, right?
Dati boxing lang ang ginagawa ko at nagagamit ko yun sa mga projects ko na may mga fight scenes. Eventually, napakilala sa akin yung mga tao dito (Submission Sport Philippines, where we had our shoot – Ed.) and they invited me to train. Nag-enjoy ako sa camaraderie plus bago sa akin yung sport so nagkaroon ako ng interest.
How long have you been doing it?
A year and a half.
