Work that sandbag!

Many women shy away from sandbag exercises because they think it's too masculine or too rough to be part of a woman’s workout routine. Say “sandbag” and they probably picture men at the pier carrying sack of stuff on their shoulders. Meanwhile, men love sandbag workouts because it brings out the strength they thought they never had. Some chicken out after seeing their trainer demo a movement, but that completely changes when they see and feel the difference after doing the workout regularly.
Reijo del Prado (in photo), a managing partner at FTX Gym, suggests that women should try sandbag exercises. "It is just like lifting the usual weights, but with a lot more creativity on the movements. It not only builds core and muscular strength but some exercises also target cardiovascular and muscular endurance,” he explains. “I give my female clients sandbag exercises because the weight makes them focus on using their core efficiently to properly execute the exercises. Also, the bags are easy to grip as most designs have horizontal and vertical handles,” he adds.
